statment 2025
My practice is the pursuit of contemplative calm and curiosity and regulation. Immersion in the flow state. Unrest and distraction and reaction comes our way relentlessly so it is now absolutely necessary to channel this flow state wherever possible. Not just the arts but in everything, as many people in every interest and discipline and situation. By facilitating a creative response from my environment and life experience I can explore this flow state as much as possible, and then hopefully transmit to others its benefits through a visual experience and through living an example of how such a practice can carry you on your journey in a peaceful way, in the practice and in life too. A decade of chronic illness has taught me to notice and permit the experience of contradictory things at the same time- I am writing this from a hospital bed, awaiting a surgery and I’m worried and frustrated, but at the same time I never felt so calm and grateful and excited. Regulation and balance will see me through this just as my practice is regulation and balance and so it carries me on my journey. With the recent series developing, I want the viewer to be able to notice many dualities. I want busyness to be contained with calm, simplicity noticed in the complexity, permanence and transience to be felt, calmness and excitement, quiet and noise. Hopefully someone might even be inspired to make their own artwork. |
